As Bainbridge High School prepares for the 2022-23 school year, the athletic department gains a new leader alongside David Mackey as Co-Athletic Director. Christopher Bryant, long time Softball Head Coach and BHS Alum joins Mackey as the Co-Athletic Director.
Bryant became the Head Softball Coach during the 2015 season and since then has led the Lady Cats over 90 wins including a first place finish in 2018 with an undefeated record within the region and a Final Four appearance.
“Coaching has been my first love and has always been something I saw myself doing. That’s why I became a teacher,” said Bryant. “I saw the AD position opened up and figured I would give it a shot.”
Coach Bryant has been around the Bainbridge community since his childhood and attended BHS, as he played football and baseball and still has relationships with members of the coaching staff to this day.
“It definitely feels a little different overseeing guys that coached me in high school but it is also a good thing too,” said Bryant. “I already have a relationship and know those guys so there’s a level of comfort that comes with this job.”
As summer quickly winds down and the school year begins to creep up, Bryant is in charge of helping set up schedules for teams, meeting with donors and setting up community involvement for the athletic department.
Despite having a busier schedule, Bryant still emphasizes the importance of success and community for BHS Athletics.
“Obviously we want to win and compete in every sport,” said Bryant. “But one thing I would like to see outside of the box score is continued community involvement. BHS Athletics has always been pretty involved and I just really want to keep that going and even try to increase it.”
Although the Lady Cats Softball Team will miss Bryant on the field everyday, they will still feel the impact of his support both on and off the field.
