Employees of the Bean Cafe made it into national news coverage this morning, appearing in a segment on the Today Show, thanks to a viral TikTok. In the brief video clip, a family that had stopped by Bainbridge to take quinceañera birthday photos on the square was caught in a heavy rainstorm. The Bean offered the crowd shelter, even after having closed for the day, even giving the birthday girl a cinnamon roll as a gift. While this took place at the end of July, the TikTok, uploaded by a member of the quinceañera party, has since gone viral, prompting its recognition on Today.

According to Bean owner Tiffany Lawrence, neither she nor her husband were present at the time, just their children, who help with the day-to-day operation of the restaurant.

“I’m just proud of them for being hospitable and kind to people, and doing the right thing without being told,” Lawrence laughed. When asked about the appearance on the Today show, she said, “That was a surprise. But it was a good surprise!”
