The local FFA chapter spent the days leading up to spring break raising funds for the club, with not one but two fundraisers: the yearly pork chop plate sale and plant sale.

The funds raised from the pork chop sale go towards funding the FFA’s yearly activities and expenses, including travel, as well as purchasing the awards and meals for the annual FFA Awards dinner. According to FFA advisor Victoria Harrell, between both BHS and BMS members, over 1,400 plates were sold this year.

FFA Advisor Brandon Smith explained that the funds raised from the plant sale go back to the greenhouse and funding the next year’s sale, while any extra is used to provide hands-on learning opportunities for students in his ag classes. This year he stated they sold almost 3,000 bedded plants and 250 peppers and tomatoes.

“I just want to thank everybody for coming out and supporting the program,” Smith said.
