Last Saturday morning, Memorial Hospital became aware of a ransomware attack that had compromised the hospital’s Electronic Health Record System. In a statement posted to Facebook, the hospital stated it does not think the issue will “impact either the level or the quality of care we provide to our patients”.

The situation is still being investigated, with the hospital largely forced to use paper in the meantime. This attack has not only affected the hospital itself, but all affiliated offices, such as the Magnolia Women’s Center. “Please bear with us as you may experience longer wait times when you come to either the hospital or physician offices as we are working on a paper-based process,” the statement concluded.

Hospital Director of Development Jamie Sinko informed the Post-Searchlight that, due to the complications caused by this attack, the hospital has postponed its free community health fair, initially scheduled for next Thursday, until further notice. This will not have any impact on the Hospital Foundation Gala, however, scheduled for this Thursday.
