Six people were injured in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 27 South on Wednesday, Oct. 24, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
The accident happened at approximately 7:25 a.m. Wednesday at the intersection of U.S. 27 and Edwards Road, about five miles south of Bainbridge.
According to the State Patrol’s accident report, Inez Sapp Carter, 69, of 138 Ward Road, Attapulgus, was driving a 2003 Ford Taurus eastbound on Edwards Road, approaching the highway.
Carter crossed over the highway’s southbound lanes and was attempting to cross over the northbound lanes when her Taurus struck a 1995 Lexus LS400 being driven northbound on U.S. 27 by Rachel Del Toro Swain, 40, of 518 S. Main Street, Attapulgus.
The Taurus struck the left side of the Lexus, causing the Lexus to spin counter-clockwise and strike the stop sign at the intersection of U.S. 27 and Woodhull Road. The Lexus came to an uncontrolled rest in a ditch, while the Taurus came to an uncontrolled rest in the highway.
Carter stated she did not see the Lexus traveling northbound, according to the accident report.
Carter had a non-serious injury. A passenger in the Taurus, whose name was not listed, sustained an unspecified injury and was taken to Memorial Hospital in Bainbridge by ambulance.
Swain, her husband, Dana Keith Swain, and two of their children riding in the car all went to Memorial Hospital by ambulance, but were later released, according to friends of the family.
Dana Swain is the pastor of the Attapulgus Church of God.
