The Bainbridge High School Lady Cats dropped two regular-season-ending basketball games over the weekend.
On Friday they lost a close 35-27 road decision to the Cairo High School Syrupmaids. On Saturday, they returned home and fell 52-34 to the Seminole County High School Lady Indians.
The Lady Cats, who finished the regular season 7-17 overall, and 3-8 in Region 1-AAAAA play, took on the Lee County High School Lady Trojans in a region tournament play-in game Tuesday in Leesburg.
The winner will advance to the region tournament, which is Friday, Feb. 15, and Saturday, Feb. 16, at BHS.
Friday night against the Syrupmaids, the Lady Cats were led by Patra Parris, with 13 points. Longeisha Emmanuel, Alex Carter and Beonka Madge all put in four points, and Tameria Levens scored two.
Alicia Hamilton led the Syrupmaids with nine points.
Saturday night’s game was close early. The Lady Cats led 9-6 at the end of the first quarter and were up 22-16 at halftime.
“We had a chance to win both weekend games, but we made too many errors at critical times,” Bainbridge coach Kelvin Cochran said Saturday night. Our overall shot selection was not good.
“We hustled and played hard. We have just got to make better possessions with the ball.”
