The Bainbridge Middle School eighth grade Bearcats and Lay Cats basketball teams hit a couple of late baskets to pull out close victories over the Pelham Middle School eighth grade Hornets and Lady Hornets Tuesday in Pelham. 

A last second 3-point shot by Bryce Jones from the right side gave the Bearcats a 39-36 victory over the Hornets and a seal and late basket by Zycheria Ruff gave the Lady Cats a 26-24 victory over the Lady Hornets.

The Bearcats were led by Jermiah Davis with 14 points.

Tim Allison scored nine points, Jones scored seven points, Tony Worlds scored five and Jailin Thoms scored four.

Bearcats coach Heith Maxwell said the win was a very big one for his Bearcats team.

“Pelham had beaten us in the first game of the season here and they were on a long winning streak,” he said.

Lady Cats coach Dot Pierce said she could not be prouder of the way her team played againsy Pelham

“We set up our offense well, handled the ball well, and played good defense,” she said. Mycha Harris led us with 22 points and Zycheria Ruff with four points.
