Brandi Gaddis, the woman responsible for an arson that injured former Bainbridge Public Safety captain Shannon Dunaway, plead guilty Monday to Arson in the First Degree.
Gaddis was sentenced to 10 years probation, two years in prison and demanded to pay a restitution of $3,000 to Dunaway. She served less than two years in Decatur County jail and was released.
She is also banned from the South Georgia Judicial Circuit.
Dunaway remains a captain at BPS and is receiving workman’s compensation.
“I was disappointed we couldn’t do more with what we had for the Dunaways,” said Joe Mulholland, District Attorney for the SGJC. “I worked with Shannon for years. He was an excellent BPS officer.”
Mulholland said the outcome is an “utter failure” of the justice system.
“Given the facts and circumstances we had to deal with, that’s the outcome it had,” Mulholland said.
