Rotarians plan for 2017’s Dancing with the Stars

Bainbridge Rotary is gearing up for their second Dancing with the Stars event, scheduled for February 18, 2017.
DWTS Co-chairs, Marjorie Mayfield and Stacey Cunningham, presented their plans for the coming year to fellow Rotarians at Tuesday’s meeting. Included in their presentation were the results of the first local DWTS held April 30.
Videos and photos were shown of the six teams of dancers who performed their own versions of dance to the apparent delight of the audience. They were enjoyed just as much by those attending this week’s Rotary Club meeting. The winning team was Dr. Surratt and Lee Powell.
Best of all, for a first time event, Rotary realized $11,000, which they used for their collaboration with the Decatur County Schools’ Telehealth program.
Cunningham said new goals have been set for the next dance-off, and made a plea for more volunteers to help put the event together.
Cunningham said the first event was well received by those who attended. Many people came up afterward and said they wanted to dance next time. They reported that six teams have already committed to dance, and more are being sought. They hope to have a dozen teams with a financial goal of $15,000.
In addition to more dance teams, volunteers are needed to help recruit sponsors, and for helpers to bring it all together.
This is described as a community entertainment event that goes beyond the bounds of Rotary.
