Voters say ‘Yes’ to alcohol sales

Decatur County residents voted to allow the City of Bainbridge to authorize Sunday alcohol sales Tuesday.
The special election referendum asked if the governing authority of the City of Bainbridge should be authorized to allow the sale of alcohol on Sundays in restaurants between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. and if it should be authorized to allow the sale of alcohol on Sundays to be made at stores between 12:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.
Roughly 63 percent of voters voted “Yes” to sale of alcohol in restaurants and roughly 62 percent of voters said “Yes” to package sales of alcohol in stores.
The Bainbridge City Council District A, Seat 2 race was won by Sylvia Washington with 219 total votes. Kevin E. Bruton received 106 votes, Kenneth Ellison received 45 and Jacob A. Gilstrap received 22.
The race for Bainbridge City Council District B, Seat 5 between Emory Middleton and Roslyn Palmer was won by Palmer 440-172.
Don Whaley ran uncontested for Bainbridge City Council District B, Seat 6 and Kregg Close ran uncontested for Bainbridge City Council District A, Seat 4.
A total of 1,047 ballots were cast this election.
