The Bainbridge Middle School baseball team won its sixth game in a row Tuesday, as the Bearcats defeated R.F. Munroe by the score of 13-3.
“We told the kids on Monday that we wanted to start fast and finish strong and that is what they did,” Bainbridge coach Brian McCorkle said.
The Bearcats’ leadoff man, Drew Leverette, earned a leadoff walk to start the first inning. Later in the inning, Leverette would eventually score the first of his three runs on a wild pitch. After Jimmy Nix was hit by a pitch, Carson Inlow singled up the middle to drive him in. Keith Lyle singled with two outs to plate the final run of the inning.
“I was really proud of the way we came out and went right after them,” McCorkle said. “We’ve had some issued in the first inning this year; we have continued to work on it and tonight it paid off for us.”
Starting pitcher Russell Wheeler led off the second with a double. Both Wheeler and Leverette, who walked, scored in the inning to increase the lead to 5-0. Wheeler also picked up his first win of the season, allowing just one hit hit and striking out five in two innings of work.
In the fourth inning, Bainbridge scored seven runs. Perry Waddell hit a two-run single.
Ty Varnum and Clarke Wiggins both pitched in relief in the victory.
